My philosophy

I believe that music is the most versatile and influential element of human existence. 

As a teacher, I strive to meet my students as fellow humans, acknowledging their emotional, social, and psychological needs while maintaining an expectation of learning and performance that honors their abilities as capable musicians.

In July of 2022 I had the great pleasure of working with Will Wohler in his portrait studio. His work is visible throughout the rest of this site. Part of his mission as a photographer and musician is to collect stories of the musicians he captures in a series called "Why Music." Speaking with Will about my own experiences brought out a joy that I had started to lose, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to chat with him about what we all find to be the heart of the matter -- and to be reconnected to what drives us.
